Your original, valid driving licence
The driver must present a valid driving licence for the appropriate vehicle category. Bring the original document: a photo or saved copy on a phone does not automatically replace the physical licence.
If the licence was issued abroad, provide the issuing country, language and expiry date before booking. Moroccan law permits the use of certain foreign licences under conditions; an international driving permit may also be relevant depending on the situation. An international visitor should generally prepare a valid passport. A Moroccan customer may be asked for a valid CNIE national identity card. The identity must match the name shown on the driving licence and booking.
If more than one person will drive, every additional driver must be declared before using the car and prepare their own documents. Do not assume that a travelling companion is automatically authorised to drive.
Additional drivers
An additional driver must be identified and accepted as part of the rental. Prepare that person’s valid licence and matching identity document. Confirm whether any separate condition or charge applies before they drive.
Allowing an undeclared person to drive can create contractual or insurance problems. Resolve this point before leaving the pickup location.
Foreign licences and international driving permits
An international driving permit does not replace the national licence; it accompanies it. Rules can depend on the issuing country, length of stay and visitor status, so broad claims such as “always required” or “never needed” are unreliable.
If the national licence does not use the Latin alphabet, is difficult to read or the stay is long, ask for confirmation before travelling. Keep the national licence, international permit when relevant and passport together.
